Convention News...

Oh how I wish I was at convention this year! Oh well...I do plan on going next year.

The big announcement....Stampin' Up! now as their own scoring tool!!! It will be called "Simply Scoring" and will be available in the holiday mini catalog available for customer order on September 1.

As a demo, I will be able to order it on August 1 with my preorder from the Holiday mini and you can rest assured I will be making that purchase. Yikes...that may dip into my Convention 2012 savings....guess I'll have to try to have more workshops!

Stampin' Up! Last Chance Items...

It's that time of year again to prepare for a new Idea Book and Catalog from Stampin' Up! As you may know, this is the time when 100s of products from the current Idea Book and Catalog will be retiring, never to be seen again!

Please click here for the list of available stamp sets that are retiring. These are available for order through June 30, 2011.

Please visit my online store to view the accessories and definately decorative items that are retiring. I recommend ordering these items online, as you have a better chance of getting what you want, because once they are gone, its too late.

Also, Stampin' Up! is reducing the number of items available in the definately decotrative line, so there are a lot of items listed. Going forward, these products will now be included in the regular idea book and catalog and not a separate mini catalog.

Stampin' Scrub Available

Stampin' Up! has replenished it's supplies of Stampin' Scrub (item 102642) and Stampin' Scrub Refill Pads (item 101230) and are happy to announce these products are now available for regular orders.

As a result of the material issues, the supplier was not able to provide the same scrubbing pad material. You may notice a slight difference in the material, but the functionality and high-quality standards remain the same. After in-house testing, SU approved the material change as an excellent alternative.

Technique Tuesday & Repeat Wednesday

This week is Big Shot Bonanza and we will be using the embedded embossing technique on a card of two. There are so many awesome uses for the big shot and the textured impressions embossing folders. I just love learning new techniques and I sure hope you do too!

This card, inspired by Angie Leach, features the Sweet Scoops stamp set that I got free, after completing a challenge from the Spring Regionals in 2010. Sorry...this stamp set retired with the 2010 Summer Mini Catalog, but I wanted you to see the technique!

Masking a Masculine Birthday & Happy Thanksgiving

Masculine cards are so difficult for me to create, because I have to try to keep them from being too fancy. But, for one of my Technique & Tool Tuesday classes a few months ago we worked on the "MASKING" technique and I think I ended up with a great masculine card too.

I came up with the color combination using the color coach (click link to go to a post on that subject). The colors of Night of Navy, Poppy Parade, Sahara Sand and Whisper White turned out nicely together, I think.

The second project that we did for the MASKING technique was a Thanksgiving card, using the Paisley Prints stamp set from the HOLIDAY MINI CATALOG. This is a special stamp set for me, because it's one that I received for free, being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator who attended convention. (yippie) This was an easy color combination for the holiday using Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze, Old Olive and Very Vanilla.

TECHNIQUE TIP - Masking is a fun technique that adds depth to your stamped projects and allows you to place images over each other without distorting the image.

Stamp the image you would like to have in the foreground (front) of the scene on your cardstock. Stamp the same image on a Post-It Note, making sure that part of the image is on the sticky part of the paper. Cut image carefully, cutting slightly inside the lines. This will be your mask. Layer your mask over the image on the cardstock. Stamp the next image over your mask to create a layered image. This will be the image you want in the background of your scene.

Class Reminders

As many of you know, I hold my Technique and Tool Tuesday classes on the third Tuesday of every month, with a Rewind Wednesday class the next evening (to allow room for all who want to attend). The class fee is just $15 or if you place an order of $50 or more, the class is free.

Wanted to drop a quick note to say I am around, but have been very busy. I'm sorry that I have not been sharing so much recently, but I am working to get back to my blogging!

Here is a sample that I put together for an event. It uses one of my very favorite new color combinations! I am really enjoying the in-colors this year and am so glad they will be around for 2 years instead of just one. Please excuse the stamp set, since it retired out of the summer mini...but it was one of my favorites and I will probably keep it for my "private" collection.

News Update!

Well, September is here and with it brings my favorite season...FALL. I love fall weather and I love fall colors. I think it also brings a less hectic and busy time for most of us, after the fun and excitement of summer. It does for me most years anyway.
I know that I have had a very busy summer and have not been around as much as normal, but I am working to change all that now! I have a few class ideas and a few suggestions from my customers, so be watching in the next few weeks for some announcements, after I get my planning done!

Let me first share with you that I have Technique & Tool Tuesday, scheduled for September on the 21st (the third Tuesday of the month) and Rewind Wednesday the following day on September 22nd. For those of you who are new customers or are looking to be new customers, here's a little background on these classes. Technique & Tool Tuesday is an opportunity to share a stamping technique or a new tool or product with you. I try to notify you in advance, via my calendar of events, what technique or tool/product I'll be sharing with you. Rewind Wednesday is a repeat of the T&T Tuesday class. Since these classes became so popular, I was unable to accommodate everyone who wanted to attend on just one day, so that is how Rewind Wednesday was created. I hope to see more of you joining me for these events. Please feel free to contact me at anytime with questions.

Stampin' Up! Convention!

I know that many of you have been waiting for me to post about convention. I'm so very sorry, but it has been extremely busy! I'm having a wonderful time and learning some new things to be able to share with you. I have a couple of class ideas, especially a holiday themed gift class and a few more things I'm hoping to post soon.

Today's the Day!! The NEW Idea Book & Catalog is now Active!

Hello friends! It's here, it's here, the new Stampin' Up! Year!

The catalog is now live and you view it online. I have received my supply of catalogs and for my club members and preferred customers, I have your catalogs available. If anyone else is interested in purchasing a catalog, the cost is just $5. I know that many of you will be coming to my New Catalog Showcase on Tuesday, July 13 or Saturday, July 17 and if I have not been able to get the catalog to you before, I give it to you on that date! For my long distance customers, I will have your catalogs in the mail this week. It would be nice to have an idea of who is coming for each Showcase date, so if you could leave a comment or send an e-mail, I would appreciate it!

I have updated my catalog links in the right-hand column for easy access to the new catalogs on line. I have already placed my order for those must have's and it will be here by the Showcase dates. This will allow you each an opportunity to view some of the new merchandise. I will also have a door prize drawing for one of the new Level 2 Hostess sets.

As with most things in life, CHANGE is very difficult and sometimes we run into challenges. Unfortunately, Stampin' Up! is not immune to such things either. There have been some challenges with the many changes happening in the new Stampin' year that have caused a few items to be unavailable on this catalog release date. While we hate these things happen, we also want you to be aware upfront. Due to quality issues or supplier delays, the following items are not available: Watercolor Wonder Crayons; Stampin' Pastels; Punch Caddies and Rub-ons. I will do my best to update you as more information is available. Thanks so much for your patience and your continued support. I truly appreciate all of you!

One Sheet Wonder...

For those of you who missed this class, it is a blast! Be sure to watch for the next one, because we will be using a Designer Series Paper from the NEW 2010-11 Idea Book & Catalog that comes out July 1!

In case you're wondering, "What is a One Sheet Wonder class?" We use 1 sheet of designer series paper, along with solid card stock, neutral card stock and embellishments to make 8-12 cards. Here is a sample of 2 cards. This class featured the retiring DSP of Razzleberry Lemonade!

Technique - Window Sheets - Part 2

As I mentioned in my last post, we also made a card using the Window Sheets as the card base. I saw this idea on another demonstrators web site, Phyllis Johnson. I changed the color, because I just love Bermuda Bay and this is one of the current in-colors that I am really going to miss.

The clear card base is the Medium Window Sheets, which is just about the same thickness as a piece of card stock. The card size is 4" x 4", which allows you to get four (4) cards out of one 12"x12" window sheet. (They come 2 in a package). You will need to use a permanent ink to stamp on the window sheet. I chose White StazOn. When you stamp the image you need to be careful not to smear it and they do tend to slide. So be sure to stamp straight down, do not rock the stamp and lift the stamp straight up after stamping. It will take a few minutes to dry completely on this type of surface. The nice thing about using StazOn ink is that if you do make a mistake, just use some StazOn Cleaner to remove the ink, then stamp again!

Remember when creating a clear card, whatever you put on the inside is visible through the front. So be sure to put the same size card stock (or a bit small) on the inside of the card. Ribbon works well around the front to hide any adhesive on the reverse side. But, if you are using the Snail adhesive, it has a subtle look, so it's not as bad.

Technique & Tool Class

As many of you know, I hold my Technique and Tool Tuesday classes on the third Tuesday of every month, with a Rewind Wednesday class the next evening (to allow room for all who want to attend). Last week, May's classes were held and I had 9 participants between the 2 evenings. We all had a lot of fun learning ways to use Stampin' Up!'s window sheets!

This is one of the projects that we completed. It's called the Acetate and Tissue technique. Of course, we used SU's window sheets for our acetate and added a little glitter for a "sparkling" effect that you can not see in the picture. In addition to the card, the participants made an extra "window" piece to go with their technique card. I provide a technique card to each person who attends class, so they have the instructions to duplicate the technique at home. It's a 6x6 card that can be put into one of SU's awesome linen albums, so all your reference cards are in one place.

Watch for my next post, where I'll show you a card we made using the Window Sheet as our base. It's really a neat idea!

Color Renovation Challenges...

I’m sorry for the delay in posting, but it’s been a busy week since I returned from vacation. I wanted to share some information received from Stampin’ Up! regarding the upcoming Color Renovation announcement.

Since the announcement, Stampin’ Up! has experienced a spike--much greater than anticipated--in demand for some of our retiring colors, causing a significant number of backorders in both card stock & re-inkers.

SU tried to anticipate the demand for retiring colors, based on forecasts and historical sales information for previous color transitions, as well as current buying behaviors. However, even with the most careful planning, the response to a transition of this nature can surprise everyone.

For re-inkers in retiring colors, as we run out, they will be placed on backorder status and those orders will be filled as quickly as we can receive the product. SU will continue to do this to the best of their ability through May, and then in June, the re-inkers will only be available while supplies last, as with any retiring product.

Card stock presents a bit larger problem, as the process of ordering and producing new paper from the paper mills is very involved, and SU can't order significant quantities at this point in time without putting the production of the new colors in jeopardy (and we know you want those!). To help provide you with the card stock in the retiring colors for as long as possible, SU will be substituting textured paper for some of the smooth colors--including card stock in 8-1/2" x 11" as well as 12" x 12"--where the smooth is no longer available. SU will be filling as many of those orders as possible with textured card stock. Because the demand for each color varies, we are unable to provide a list of what colors of card stock will be substituted with textured, or at what point that will happen. However, if you receive a package of card stock that is textured instead of smooth, there will be a sticker on the package indicating that change. There will be no change in item code or price for these substitutions.

We realize that this is an extraordinary situation, and that this solution may not be ideal for everyone. However, we hope this will help you get the retiring colors you want for as long as possible. Please keep in mind that an instance may arise where we are unable to fill orders on a specific product, and it may become unavailable before the end of May, but those cases should be minimal, and we will communicate those situations as they arise. The main goal is to serve you the best that we can, and we appreciate your patience as we work through this situation.

Stampin' Up! Regional Seminar...

Wow...what a great time we had at the regional seminar from Stampin' Up! in Milwaukee, WI. It was a day filled with learning and fun! Today, I'm sharing a couple of the make-n-takes we completed and I will share more through the week. I will also share some card "swaps" I received from other demonstrators and will work on some samples of new techniques I learned too (over the next couple weeks).

All the items I'll be sharing feature the Vintage Vogue set that is in the current Occassions Mini Catalog and will carry over to the new 2010/11 Idea Book & Catalog.

The first make-n-take I'm showing is a "Love Mini Note". It's made using the Sending Love "Kisses" Notes and a glassine envelope that is made to size, along with the "NEW" satin ribbon that is featured in the Occassions Mini Catalog. (Guess what...the satin ribbon is carrying over to the Summer Mini Catalog)

The second make-n-take I'm sharing today is small "gift" pouch. It's pleated at the bottom so that you can put something in it (a bag of tea, small chocolate square, etc). This idea uses the scallop edge punch and the modern label punch too. Our punches are so versatile, they can be used on just about any project.

More Color Renovation News!!

First, let me clear up some confusion I've seen already this morning around the web. The color formerly known as "Kraft" has been renamed "Crumb Cake", so it really is not a new color to the collection. However, it will now be available in ink too! If you have not already seen my post from last evening, please scroll down so you don't miss the original announcement. (It also has links so you can print the color collections.) I posted it as soon as I got home from my "day job" and could get all the details!

I know that we are all going to miss some of these colors, but as with the in-colors each year, we do get used to them being gone and we fall in love with the new ones. I'm quite sure this will happen even faster now! I am so excited, can you tell yet??

WOW…Color Renovation coming to Stampin’ Up!

I am so excited after hearing this announcement and cannot wait to get my hands on the new colors that we will have beginning in July with the new catalog release. I think I’m in love with color (sorry hunny)!

Change is difficult to swallow sometimes, but I think this is definitely, change for the good. Stampin’ Up! will still be coordinating their products and, as we hear, be offering even more coordination than ever before! Now, our colors will be grouped into COLLECTIONS, instead of families. (Clicking on the word collections will take you to the sample.)

The color renovation is an update of SU’s color line. There will be 5 new colors added (Marina Mist , Daffodil Delight, Cherry Cobbler, Cajun Craze, & Early Expresso), a return of 10 previous in-colors (Tangerine Tango , River Rock , Riding Hood Red , Wild Wasabi, Baja Breeze , Pink Pirouette, Pacific Point, Melon Mambo , Soft Suede & Rich Razzleberry) and saying GOOD-BYE to some of our existing colors. I think I’m going to miss a few of them, but I’m looking forward to using the new ones too! (Clicking on the word good-bye will take you to the sample.)

In addition to all this, we will get five (5) IN-COLORS with the new catalog. And…to make it even better, the new in-colors will be active for two (2) FULL years!! This means in the 2011-12 Idea Book & Catalog, we will have 10, count them 10 in-colors! I’m so excited I can hardly stand it!

As a demonstrator, I will be able to pre-order my new colors on June 1, so you’ll get to see them as soon as I get them and can start creating with them. If you are interested in becoming a demonstrator, there’s no better time than now!! Give me a call or send an e-mail and I’ll share my excitement with you!

And…in true Stampin’ Up! style, we will ALL have the opportunity to update our color COLLECTIONS by purchasing kits at a reduced price. This includes updates to our stamp pads, cardstock, markers, and wonder crayons!

Sale-a-Bration Ends Today!

This is a sad day for all of us stampers. The biggest deal of the year comes to a close at 11:50 p.m. (MT) today (via online ordering). Watercolor Rose

Well I got the problem fixed with my scanning software..yikes! So now I can share with you the card I originally planned to have for yesterday. I hope you all enjoyed the Blog Tour..I know I did.

The rose was watercolored using Watercolor Wonder Crayons. I used several different colors to get the multi-blended rose color. I like how it turned out. It really stands out on the Coral Cameo paper too.

I hope you find some of your own creativity through my samples!

KLOMPENSTAMPERS BLOG TOUR (HOP) - Last Day

Well, today is the 3rd and final day of the blog tour...I sure hope you have enjoyed the designs and creativity of my fellow demonstrators, I know I have. They sure are a talented group!

Today I have a card for you made with the Bloomin' Beautiful stamp set. This set is a lot of fun to create with, since it has bunches of opportunity! Today's card is simple reflection of spring...BLOOM! I can not wait for all the flowers to come into bloom with the new season. I used the watercolor pencils with a blender pen to color in the flower.

I'll let you in on a little secret...I will have another post for you tomorrow, if you want to bookmark or save my blog page. I run into some technical difficulties last evening with my scanner and camera so I didn't get to share my newest design as originally planned. (Shhhh...don't tell anyone)

Wow...I'm so excited to announce that I will be participating in a BLOG TOUR! This is an event where a number of Stampin' Up! demonstrators work together to bring you, our customers, friends and fellow demonstrators ideas for inspiration and creating! I have attended several blog hops/tours and have anxiously awaited to be able to participate in one and now I am!

You all have heard me talk about this wonderful group that I belong to...The KlompenStampers. (It's the group I'm with when I go to Michigan and have stamping fun for the weekend!) There are about 12 demonstrators from this group, who are going to work together, to create an amazing tour for you to visit. The theme will be "spring" creations and may include cards, scrapbook pages, 3-D projects, etc. It's sure to be "fields" of fun!

Hello Stampers, Scrappers & Paper Crafters:

I read about this article from a Stampin' Up! publication. "Imitation is the sincerest flattery." C. C. Colton

I know this goes against everything we learned as children, but sometimes it is okay to COPY, or should I say CASE. You may have heard the term CASE. I have heard of some different definitions, but we like this one best, since it goes along with Stampin' Up!'s Statement of the Heart...Copy And Share Everything. That's really what this whole journey is all about...sharing what we love with others and allowing them the freedom to discover their own creativity.

If we are honest and had rely on our own ideas all the time, many of us would only have a few cards, pages or projects to show for hours of our hard work. It is necessary for all of us to get inspiration from someone or somewhere else from time to time. This is a good thing.

CASEing will save you time! You can look at other samples, glance at a brochure or magazine or surf the web for ideas to find something that says...THIS IS IT! You might CASE it exactly as it is or change of few things to make it your own!

CASEing in itself is a form of being creative! You may run across something you like, but think the color or layout needs some adjustment. This is fine...you do not have to case items exactly. Make some changes and let you creativity make it your own.

In these days of the world wide web, it is so easy to find ideas to CASE. You can find them most anywhere. And, if you are going to post it on a web site or a group gallery, don't forget the "flattery" and give reference to the person who inspired you or whom you "CASEd".

I'll be sharing some samples over the next few days. If you read my notes or comments, you'll see that I CASE others too!

Vintage Vouge Card Sample

Hello my stamping friends. The card sample I have for you today is one that I just completed for a swap with some awesome demos from the Klompenstampers group! Thanks girls...I love the cards I got.

I used the new Vintage Vouge stamp set, found in the Occasions Mini catalog (pg 26). I also used the "clear mount" rubber stamp version available for the first time ever, from Stampin' Up! I am really liking these stamps, but still love my wood mount too. What's a girl to do??

I also used the new textured impressions folder "Perfect Polka Dots", from the Mini (pg 35) and the flower center is a rhinestone "circle" brad from the "ice" collection, in the IBC (pg 179).

Stampin' Up!'s Haiti Relief Efforts...

Hey, friends! One of the things that makes me most proud of being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator is the history of Stampin’ Up! and my fellow demonstrators’ in making a difference in the lives of others.

This has been shown so many times over the past several years that I have been involved with this great company. When terriorists attacked the Twin Towers, a tsunami struck Indonesia, a hurricane destroyed New Orleans, wildfires ravaged Australia and on a smaller scale, a rodeo cowboy was injured at an event attended by thousands of SU demonstrators…Stampin’ Up! and it’s demonstrators have stepped up and showed their commitment to making a difference and this tragedy is no different.

The executives at Stampin’ Up! were not at all surprised at the number of calls, e-mails and other inquires they have received from demonstrators across the world, on how and what we can do to help! So here is the plan:

From now until February 28, 2010, $2 from every “I {Heart} Hearts” stamp set sold, will be donated to the American Red Cross’ Haiti Relief and Development Fund. The Red Cross is already well-established in Haiti, and this money will be used to provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need.

Decorative Tiles - Holiday Gift Class

This great idea was developed by the awesome & talented Kimberly Van Diepen and with this link on her name, you can check out her blog! She truly embodies the "statement of heart" from Stampin' Up! and shares what she loves. We were lucky to have her as a guest speaker at one of our group meetings last year and she inspired us all. Thanks Kimberly for all you do!

I used the Vintage Ornaments II stencils from Stampin' Up! from in the Definitely Decorative catalog. Next I applied Old Olive CRAFT Stampin' Ink with a sponge dauber, then glassy glaze embossing powder. Bake in oven at 350 for 10-13 minutes. Let cool completely. Next use stencil ease stencil paste or texture magic (I used this because I can not find stencil paste at our hobby store), spread around stencil and lift straight up. It will leave a textured finish. Let dry completely. To add color to, use craft ink on sponge dauber to desired color. To finish I used the Old Olive 1 1/4" stripped grosgrain ribbon (new this catalog) and the hat pin with pearls & beads from the Pretties kit. And Viola'....you are done and have a beautiful gift to give to someone special.

CHRISTMAS IS IN THE AIR...

Well, we are certainly getting closer to that time of year, especially with these cool nights we have had here in NW Indiana. For those of you who did not know, I have been layed-up for the past 2 weeks and I'm sorry I have not been able to post. I had gallbladder surgery on Friday, September 11, after spending the week in the hospital to figure out exactly what was wrong. I've spent the past week recovering and am feeling much better.

Now I'm ready to go back to work...both jobs, although I really do not consider this a job, since I have fun doing it! I'll return to my office job tomorrow, but have spent the past couple days working/playing with my stamps! Boy, does that feel good and relaxing.

The card I have for you today is the card I'm using for a holiday swap at our Klompenstampers meeting/stamp camp on Saturday in Michigan. With the 2 weeks I spent sick, I'm very behind and have to make 27 cards for the swap, NEXT weekend.

I sure hope you like it. I used the Delightful Decorations stamp set from the Holiday Mini Catalog (pg 24) and the "Merry Christmas" is from the A Cardinal Christmas stamp set on page 38 of the Idea Book & Catalog. Also, you see I used some of my favorite punches, the scallop edge punch, corner rounder and the modern label punch that is soon becoming a new favorite! I also used the movers & shapers with the big shot of the modern label to get the frame and the Big Shot texturz plate of Perfect Details on the garden green card stock....these are GREAT! Of course some ribbon for embellishment too and the gold loop on the ornament is the Elastic Cord available in the Holiday Mini Catalog until January 4, 2010.

Fun with Beads...

In the next Technique & Tool Tuesday class (August 18) we will be creating with beads, buttons & glitter...OH MY!

So, here's a sample showing one of the ways to use bead's in your card making. Watch for more ideas over the next few weeks. Simple placement of the beads on the cupcake to look like sprinkles. I just used the Tombow multi-purpose glue to adhere the beads to the card stock.

Last Night's Open House...

Thanks to each of you who were able to come by last evening to see some of the new products and/or pick up your copy of the catalog. We had a good time talking about the products, looking through the catalog and making some cards!!! I know that's what everyone comes for anyway. :-)

We made two (2) cards last evening, the first used the new Level 3 hostess set, "Kind & Caring Thoughts" with two (2) of the new in-colors...Dusty Durango and Crushed Curry. With loving thoughts...

This one of the cards I made with my dear friend, neighbor and stamping buddy in mind, due to the recent death of her mother. I'll share more as I work on them and will pick the one to send, that best reflects my thoughts of her.

I love this designer series paper and sure hate to see it retire with the current in-colors, especially Baja Breeze!
